Shopping for foundation can seem hard. Does it blend well with my skin? Should I get cream, liquid or powder foundation? What color is right for my skin? Should my foundation be cool or warm for undertones? There are so many questions to factor in when choosing a foundation.
In giving advice to anyone shopping for foundation, my first tip would be to know your skin type. Basically, what does your skin like and dislike? What products/chemicals do you prefer? Once you become familiar with whether you have dry, oily, or combination skin than you are one step closer to starting your search for the right foundation.
Next, research the different foundations available on the market today. Look at the reviews; compare them. Also, pay attention to the skin types during your research as many makeup enthusiast and artists indicate what foundation they prefer for different skin types. This is another great starting point. You will have some background knowledge of what you should be looking for and what may or may not work for your skin type.
Another great point is to get SAMPLE products. Before buying any foundation, I always work from samples. As we all know lighting varies depending upon location. In the store it may look amazing and great, but maybe not so much outdoors or at home. It’s okay to ask for various samples of brands/shades. This will allow you to go home and test your samples in different settings. Foundation can be expensive so you want to make sure you purchase the one you love best for your skin.
Lastly, don’t be afraid to talk to the cosmetic associates and makeup artists at store counters. They are there to help, but I would advise going into the store knowing what you want and being open-minded in trying suggested products. Just remember this will be your purchase and ultimately a product you will be placing on your face. Get to know your skin, research, sample, and go to any and every store carrying the products worth trying 🙂
Happy Shopping!!
